Kit Bailey (Drums) loves rhythm. He began performing in a Sacramento Scottish bagpipe band in 1966, and soon joined orchestras, wind ensembles, and big bands in the Bay Area, Central Coast, Southern California and the Sierra Foothills. Symphonic work included performances with Sarah Vaughan, Benny Goodman and Phyllis Diller (a fine pianist). Discovering jazz, he devoured the combo and big band repertoire, Brazilian rhythms, and Caribbean and Afro-Cuban styles and instruments. When he moved to Nevada County in 1988, a thriving dance community exposed him to the rhythms of Mali, Guinea, Senegal, Ghana and the Congo, which informs his bebop, big band, funk, Latin, and rock drum set. Kit plays 1940s-vintage Ludwig drums and Zildjian cymbals.

Kit has recorded and/or performed with Earth Rhythms Dance and Drum Troupe, Sierra Nevada Winds, Music in the Mountains Orchestra, In Concert Sierra, The Power of 12, Ivan Najera, Moonlight Swing Big Band (principal drummer since 1997, Blue Shadows, Objects in the Mirror, Troubadour Trouble, Chameleon, Sierra Four, and the Ken Hardin Trio; and performed in musical theater productions for Foothill Theater Company, Sierra Stages and Community Asian Theater of the Sierra. Kit also enjoys sharing drumming techniques and rhythms with students of all ages.
